Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, Iran has allowed select countries, including India, to continue using the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping.

According to Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, only nations considered friendly—such as China, Russia, Iraq, and Pakistan—have been granted safe transit, while access remains restricted for others.

The strait, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, is a vital route for global energy supplies. Disruptions have already led to a spike in oil and gas prices, raising concerns about global economic stability.

India, which sources a significant portion of its energy needs from the region, has been actively engaging in diplomatic efforts to ensure the free flow of resources. Officials warn that prolonged restrictions could impact fuel availability and fertiliser supplies.
