Iran Allows Safe Passage for ‘Non-Hostile’ Ships in Strait of Hormuz

Iran has announced that vessels it considers “non-hostile” can safely navigate the Strait of Hormuz, even as maritime traffic remains significantly disrupted due to ongoing regional tensions.

In a statement issued through its UN mission, Tehran said ships would be granted safe transit provided they do not support any actions against Iran and adhere to its safety regulations. A similar communication was also shared with the International Maritime Organization.

Despite the assurance, shipping activity in the strait has dropped sharply. Only a handful of vessels are currently passing through daily, compared to around 120 transits before the conflict began. The disruption has triggered a major global energy crisis, as the route is crucial for transporting oil and liquefied natural gas.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has indicated that discussions are underway to bring an end to the ongoing conflict, raising cautious optimism in global markets.
